  11. # MQTTnet
  12. MQTTnet is a high performance .NET library for MQTT based communication. It provides a MQTT client and a MQTT server (broker). The implementation is based on the documentation from <http://mqtt.org/>.
  13. ## Features
  14. ### General
  15. * Async support
  16. * TLS 1.2 support for client and server (but not UWP servers)
  17. * Extensible communication channels (e.g. In-Memory, TCP, TCP+TLS, WS)
  18. * Lightweight (only the low level implementation of MQTT, no overhead)
  19. * Performance optimized (processing ~70.000 messages / second)*
  20. * Uniform API across all supported versions of the MQTT protocol
  21. * Interfaces included for mocking and testing
  22. * Access to internal trace messages
  23. * Unit tested (~200 tests)
  24. * No external dependencies
  25. \* Tested on local machine (Intel i7 8700K) with MQTTnet client and server running in the same process using the TCP channel. The app for verification is part of this repository and stored in _/Tests/MQTTnet.TestApp.NetCore_.
  26. ### Client
  27. * Communication via TCP (+TLS) or WS (WebSocket) supported
  28. * Included core _MqttClient_ with low level functionality
  29. * Also included _ManagedMqttClient_ which maintains the connection and subscriptions automatically. Also application messages are queued and re-scheduled for higher QoS levels automatically.
  30. * Rx support (via another project)
  31. * Compatible with Microsoft Azure IoT Hub
  32. ### Server (broker)
  33. * List of connected clients available
  34. * Supports connected clients with different protocol versions at the same time
  35. * Able to publish its own messages (no loopback client required)
  36. * Able to receive every message (no loopback client required)
  37. * Extensible client credential validation
  38. * Retained messages are supported including persisting via interface methods (own implementation required)
  39. * WebSockets supported (via ASP.NET Core 2.0, separate nuget)
  40. * A custom message interceptor can be added which allows transforming or extending every received application message
  41. * Validate subscriptions and deny subscribing of certain topics depending on requesting clients
  42. * Connect clients with different protocol versions at the same time.
  43. ## MQTTnet Server
  44. _MQTTnet Server_ is a standalone cross platform MQTT server (like mosquitto) basing on this library. It has the following features.
  45. * Running portable (no installation required)
  46. * Runs und Windows, Linux, macOS, Raspberry Pi
  47. * Python scripting support for manipulating messages, validation of clients, building business logic etc.
  48. * Supports WebSocket and TCP (with and without TLS) connections
  49. * Provides a HTTP based API (including Swagger endpoint)
  50. * Extensive configuration parameters and customization supported
  51. ## Supported frameworks
  52. * .NET Standard 1.3+
  53. * .NET Core 1.1+
  54. * .NET Core App 1.1+
  55. * .NET Framework 4.5.2+ (x86, x64, AnyCPU)
  56. * Mono 5.2+
  57. * Universal Windows Platform (UWP) 10.0.10240+ (x86, x64, ARM, AnyCPU, Windows 10 IoT Core)
  58. * Xamarin.Android 7.5+
  59. * Xamarin.iOS 10.14+
  60. ## Supported MQTT versions
  61. * 5.0.0
  62. * 3.1.1
  63. * 3.1.0
  64. ## Nuget
  65. This library is available as a nuget package: <https://www.nuget.org/packages/MQTTnet/>
  66. ## Examples
  67. Please find examples and the documentation at the Wiki of this repository (<https://github.com/chkr1011/MQTTnet/wiki>).
  68. ## Contributions
  69. If you want to contribute to this project just create a pull request. But only pull requests which are matching the code style of this library will be accepted. Before creating a pull request please have a look at the library to get an overview of the required style.
  70. Also additions and updates in the Wiki are welcome.
